Abstract
PURPOSE: To efficiently separate metal ions and a metal ion complexing agent in a mixture in a short time by allowing hydrogen ions or hydrogen ions and other cations to be adsorbed on a cation exchange resin and passing the mixture through the resin at a liq. phase.
CONSTITUTION: The mixture is not restricted, yet a typical mixture consists of retentive ions used in the separation of rare earth elements by an ion exchange method and a complexing agent used as an eluent, e.g., divalent Cu ions and EDTA. The mixture is dissolved in water to prepare an aqueous soln. of 10W10-5 mole/l hydrogen ion concn., and hydrogen ions or hydrogen ions and other cations are allowed to be adsorbed on a cation exchange resin. By passing the soln. through the resin at 5W200°C, the metal ions are separated from the complexing agent to enable the agent to be recycled.
