Abstract
In the known electrolytic treatment of waste waters which contain heavy metal ions such as nickel, copper or zinc to recover the heavy metals with reuse of the electrolyte which accumulates during the electrolysis, the waste water which contains the heavy metal ions and other ions is passed through a concentration and purification unit, e.g. an ion exchange system. The costs for the apparatus and for operation are high in this case. These disadvantages are diminished or eliminated by regenerating the concentration and purification unit with the electrolyte which accumulates in the electrolysis cell, and introducing the eluate which contains the heavy metal ions into the electrolysis cell. This makes it possible to use a simple system which has a clearly arranged construction and which can be operated reliably and with considerably reduced costs for maintenance, chemicals and with a good current efficiency.
