Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce the amount of the other inert gas used for cutting down the operation cost by using LD gas recovered from converter as a stirring gas for the converter in the operation of a large-size top-blown rotary converter provided with bottom tuyere. CONSTITUTION:Steel scrap or molten pig iron is charged into the large-size top- blown rotary converter 1 provided with the bottom tuyere 7 and pure oxygen is blown upwards from the lance 2 for refining in order to manufacture molten steel. In this case, a stirring gas for molten steel 1 is blown from the bottom tuyere 7 into the converter to sufficiently stir the molten steel jointly with oxygen jet from the lance 2 in order to accelerate the refining reaction, where the dust in the LD gas discharged from the converter 1 is removed; the gas is cooled, and then stored in the tank 6 through the flue 3, the Venturi tube 4, and the blower 5, and then blown into the molten steel through the bottom tuyere 7 by means of the pump 8. Or, in the refining process where LD gas can be recovered, LD gas is directly taken from the flue by opening the valve 9 and then blown through the tuyere 7. Thereby, the costly use of Ar, N2, or other inert gases can be greatly reduced, permitting the operating cost to be cut down.
