Abstract
PURPOSE:To make a dot diameter small to improve print quality, by focusing ink mist particles, which will be attracted to a platen by ions generated by corona discharge, using focusing electrodes. CONSTITUTION:When a high voltage is applied to a corona wire 1, ions are generated, which ions are attracted toward a needle electrode 10 due to an electric field between the needle electrode 10 and the corona wire 1. If an electric field in a small aperture of an apertured board 2 produced bu a gate voltage between electrodes 2a, 2b acts to aid the ion stream to move toward the needle electrode 10, the ion stream A moves through the aperture, and the ions attach to ink mist particles 4 and are absorbed into a recording paper 5 to perform printing. In this case, electric voltages V1, V2 are applied to focusing electrodes 11, 12 arranged between the ink mist particles 4 and the needle electrode 10 such that equipotential surfaces are formed as shown by B, and as a result the ion stream A is focused and moves toward the recording paper.
