Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide a smooth, one-side plated steel plate with high commercial value by a method wherein a steel plate is one-side-plated with molten metal in nonoxidizing atmosphere, and when cooled by wiping off excessive metal, the molten metal is oxidized before being solidified. CONSTITUTION:A steel strip 1 to be one-side-plated is passed through a box maintained with nonoxidizing or reducing atmosphere. At this time, the strip 1 is passed over plating molten metal bath 2 of Zn or Zn-Al in plating tank 7. A solenoid pump 3 installed in the molten metal bath is used to raise the metal to the underside of the steel strip 1 for one-side plating. Wiping nozzles 34 smoothens excessive molten metal to a uniform thickness. A nozzle 8 opposite deflector rolls 6 in the cooling zone injects oxygen or steam onto the molten metal surface before solidifying so that oxidized film is formed and a uniform and smooth plating surface is resulted. The strip is cooled by water seal 5 and is taken outside.
