Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a heat transmitting surface applicable to both evaporation and condensation by a method wherein an aluminum member is treated with demineralized water or distilled water and then treated with a treating liquid containing a predetermined compound or compounds, in a process of forming a heat transmitting surface on an aluminum pipe for a heat exchanger or the like.
CONSTITUTION: An aluminum member is treated with demineralized water or distilled water, to form a conversion coating on the surface of the member. In this case, the temperature is preferably higher than 40°C and pH is preferably 6W13 or higher. Then, the aluminum member is treated with a treating liquid containing one or more compounds selected from the group consisting of silicic acid, tannic acid and tannates. In this case, sodium silicate, sodium tannate or the like is used as the salt in the treating liquid. By such a treatment, the surface of the aluminum member is roughened, and a heat transmitting surface having a large heat transmitting area and an excellent corrosion resistance is obtained.
