Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a heat transmitting surface of an aluminum-made heat exchanging pipe applicable to both evaporation and condensation by a method wherein an aluminum member is treated with a treating liquid containing a salt or salts of alkali metals or alkaline earth metals and then treated with a treating liquid containing silicates and/or tannates.
CONSTITUTION: An aluminum member is treated with a treating liquid containing one or more salts of alkali metals or alkaline earth metals, to form conversion coating on the surface of the member. In this case, halogenides, sulfates or the like is used as the salts in the treating liquid. The treating temperature is preferably higher than 40°C and pH is preferably 6W13. Then the aluminum member is treated with a treating liquid containing one or more compounds selected from the group consisting of silicates, tannic acid and tannates, to form a corrosion-resistant layer thereon. The salts in this case may be sodium salts or the like. By such a treatment, the heat transmitting area is increased, the corrosion resistance is enhanced, and the thus obtained heat transmitting surface is applicable to both evaporation and condensation.
