Abstract

PURPOSE: To accomplish accurate determination of hydrogen with a sufficient sensitivity by trapping hydrogen released from a metallic material with a trapping vessel adhering thereto and the amount of the hydrogen is converted into an electric signal with a combustible gas detector to effect atmospheric correction for the detector.
CONSTITUTION: A hydrogen trapping vessel 2 adheres to a significant point of a test metallic member 1, for example stress concentrated section, and the amount of hydrogen released into the vessel 2 from the member 1 is converted into an electic signal continuously or intermittently with the combustible gas detector 3. Then, it is amplified with an amplifier and outputted to an indication recorder 8. Here, to prevent rise the temperature of the member 1, the current of a detector 3 is so set as not to exceed normal temperature. The temperature in the vessel 2 is measured with a thermocouple 9 and a correction is made in temperature for the hydrogen measuring sensitivity with the amplifier 7 while the humidity in the vessel 2 is measured with a dewpoint temperature detector 16 to make up for the output of the detector 3.
