Abstract

PURPOSE: To reuse formed sludge as a flocculant by adding a mineral acid and at least an oxidizer such as hydrogen peroxide or ozone to the flocculated sludge formed from waste water contg. COD components.
CONSTITUTION: Waste water 1 contg. COD such as biologically treated water of sewage and night soil is introduced into a flocculating tank 2, where ferric chloride 3 is added and an org. high polymer flocculant 4 such as anionic polymer is added, after which it is separated to flocculated sludge 6 and treated water 7 in a settling basin 5. Thence, if necessary, it is further concd. with a thickener, after which a mineral acid 9 and hydrogen peroxide 10 are added in the 1st agitating tank 8 and the mixture is agitated at 2W4pH. Further, the mineral acid 9 is added in the 2nd agitating tank 11, and Fe(OH)3 is dissolved as Fe3+ ions, after which the sludge is recycled to the waste water 1, and is reused as a flocculant.
