Abstract

PURPOSE:To manufacture a tightly sealed liq. crystal display device with high productivity by using a flexible plastic substrate having a thin filmlike electrode and an ultraviolet curing sealant and assembling them in a special process. CONSTITUTION:A flexible plastic substrate formed by setting a thin filmlike electrode on a polyethylene terephthalate film, a polycarbonate film or the like is used. Ultraviolet curing sealant 7 is applied to substrate 2 along the inner periphery, and after filling the inside of sealant 7 with liq. crystal substance 6 by dropping, other substrate 1 is superposed. A part corresponding to liq. crystal discharge outlet 5 is masked, and ultraviolet rays are irradiated to cure sealant 7 except outlet 5. Substrates 1, 2 are then pressed from both sides to adjust the space between both substrates 1, 2 to prescribed size while discharging excess substance 6 from outlet 5. By irradiating the part of outlet 5 to cure sealant 7 of the part, the cell is sealed perfectly to form a display device.
