Abstract
PURPOSE: A strongly acidic titanium trichloride solution is gradually oxidized with an oxidative gas to grow needles of titanium dioxide and the needles are heat treated at high temperature to produce platelet titanium dioxide with improved electrical characteristics, thus being suitably used to produce sintered ceramic articles.
CONSTITUTION: A strongly acidic solution of titanium trichloride salt such as TiCl3 is gradually oxidized at temperature ranging from 50°C to the boiling point with an oxidative gas to form needles of titanium dioxide. Then, the needles are heat treated at temperature ranging 600W900°C for more than 30min to produce platelets of titanium dioxide. The use of the platelet titanium dioxide gives flat titanium oxide composites, whereby the specified crystal axis of the particles can be oriented in a certain plane in the sintered ceramic articles of the composite titanium oxide, resultingly the sintered ceramic gets electrical anisotropy.
