Abstract

PURPOSE: An appropriate colorant is added to the glass raw materials to make amber-colored double bottles of hard glass and the bottles is plated with silver to give golden vacuum bottles that can be used as a high-grade thermos bottle.
CONSTITUTION: Siliceous sand, or its fine powder and borax or boric acid are used as the major components and feldspar, niter and zinc white are added in small amounts thereto to prepare a raw material for glass. Further, small amounts of iron oxide, titanium oxide, antimony oxide, and lithium flux are added to the raw material and they are melted and made into amber-colored double bottles of hard glass. Then, the bottles are plated with silver on the inside walls using an aqueous solution of silver nitrate and made vacuum to give vacuum double bottles. This method gives golden vacuum double bottles of high commodity value in spite of silver platings.
