Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a clear image free from fog by forming the horizontal component of a magnetic field in a region of a developer support close to a latent image retaining body. CONSTITUTION:Toner support (sleeve) 1 is rotated around fixed magnet 2, and member 3 regulating the thickness of a toner layer is set at a place opposite to sleeve 1 and regulates the thickness of toner 4 applied to sleeve 1 by the action of a magnetic field formed with member 3 and magnetic pole N1. The arrangement of toner 4 in the vicinity of pole N1 is shown by the figure. The magnetic field on center line Y of the magnetic pole contains vertical component G1 alone, and chain toner T1 grows toward photosensitive drum 1. At places X away from the pole, horizontal component G2 of the magnetic field is dominant, and chain toner T2 lies down on the toner support. As a result, toner particles bind to each other more firmly at positions X, and the potential value of an electrostatic latent image required to attract the toner from sleeve 1 against the binding force is made larger to give a sufficient image density at the higher potential part. On the other hand, at the lower potential part, the rearrangement threshold value of the toner is made small to control fog.
