Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a composite fiber capable of giving an ultrafine fiber by peeling and splitting with a simple spinneret at a high operational rate, by composite spinning of plural components in a specifc shape.
CONSTITUTION: Two types of polymers A and B, preferably polyethylene terephthalate and nylon 6 or 66, having a poor affinity for each other are divided into plural regions in the position of symmetry of rotation to form a composite stream having a cross section wherein both components are exposed to the surface layer. A readily soluble polymer C, preferably polystyrene, is supplied to cover the stream in the form of a composite fiber. For example, the polymer A is extruded through the composite tube 4 into nozzles 5, and the polymer B is passed through an equalizing chamber 7 surrounding the composite tube 4 and then slit grooves 6 of the tube 4 and combined with the polymer A to form a composite stream A.B. The polymer C is passed through an equalizing chamber 9 surrounding a composite stream forming part 8 to form the objective three-component composite fiber.
