CONSTITUTION:Spots are irradiated from stationary light emitting parts 11, 12 to parts on an object 14 having a difference in contrast, and the reflected beams of the light thereof are received by a stationary photodetecting part 10. A pair of photodetectors are provided in the stationary photodetecting part, and the differential signal of both photodetectors is inputted to a control device 17 which in turn increases or decreases the quantities of light of the parts 11, 12 when the quantity of the light spot irradiated from the part 11 and reflected from the object is smaller than that of the part 12. Thereby, the optical axis of a movable photodetecting part 13 correctly detects the center of the spots, whereby the accurate focusing operation is accomplished.
