Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase the resolution of signal detection, by holding a pickup freely shakingably so that the focus of an objective lens is a center of displacement and controlling servo so that the optical axis of the pickup is vertical to a disc plane. CONSTITUTION:An auxiliary optical beam from an auxiliary light source 41 for slope detection is supplied to a lens 3 in parallel with an optical axis from a location shifted by a specified amount from an optical axis of an objective lens 3. When a disc 4 is tilted as broken lines or one dot chain lines, the auxiliary optical beam is reflected respectively as broken lines or one dot chain lines, and a signal to drive electromagnetic coils 34a and 34b is formed based on an output of photodetectors 42a and 42b, and objective lens 3 is displaced and servo is given so that the optical axis is vertical to the disc 4.
