Abstract

PURPOSE:To simplify an optical assembly by using a surface emission laser as a light source, forming the laser and a photo detector on the same substrate, and fitting a transparent body where a lens is formed. CONSTITUTION:A semiconductor laser 11 is formed on a substrate 10, and a photo detector 12 is formed, to which a current is applied at the time of light incidence, at a difference place on the substrate 10 with the same constitution as the semiconductor laser 11. Light emitted from the so-called surface emission laser, which radiates the light from the surface of the substrate 10, is condensed by lenses 14 and 15, which are formed at one part of a transparent body 13 laminated on the substrate 10, and irradiated to a recording medium 16. On the other hand, reflected light from the recording medium 16 is received by the lenses 14 and 15 formed at the transparent body 13, and can be detected as a signal by the photo detector 12, which is formed at the different place on the substrate 10 from the place where the surface emission laser is formed.
