Abstract

PURPOSE:To decrease the number of immersion of a porous spongy body, which is packed with an active material, and lengthen the life of an electrode of a low cost by impregnating a porous spongy body with a solution of a salt of the active material in which a product of the hydrolysis of the active material is suspended, before the porous spongy body is treated with an alkali. CONSTITUTION:A three-dimensionally continuous porous spongy base plate made of a metal, is impregnated with a solution of a salt of an active material, such as a solution of nickel nitrate, before the base plate is immersed in an alkaline solution to make the nickel nitrate contained in the plae to be converted into nickel hydroxide. After that, the plate is repeatedly washed and dried several times, thus an electrode being manufactured. Here, the former porous spongy body is impregnated with a solution, which is prepared by making a product of the hydrolysis of the active material, such as nickel hydroxide, to be deposited and suspended in a solution of nickel nitrate which is a salt of the active material. As a salt of the active material, sulfate or chloride may be used other than nitrate. The pH of the solution of the above salt is preferred to be in the range of 2-5.
