Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the corrosion of a porous nickel substrate even in high temperature, high concentration impregnation solution by specifying the specific conductivity of a nickel nitrate aqueous solution, in which the porous nickel substrate is immersed for alkali treatment, in a specific range. CONSTITUTION:A porous nickel substrate is immersed in a nickel nitrate aqueous solution, then alkali-treated to convert nickel nitrate into nickel hydroxide. By repeating this process, a desired amount of nickel hydroxide is impregnated in the porous nickel substrate. The nickel nitrate aqueous solution having a specific conductivity of 3.0X10<-2>-5.0X10<-2>OMEGA<-1>/cm is used in this process. Even if the nickel substrate is immersed in high temperature, high concentration nickel nitrate aqueous solution, the corrosion of the substrate is retarded. As a result, an alkaline storage battery having steady cycle life can be obtained. To adjust the specific conductivity, the addition of nitric acid and nickel hydroxide is preferable in terms of the easy control of an impregnation solution and the prevention of contamination.
