Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve co-catalyst adding effect by immersing the substratum electrode plate, which is obtained by immersing it into a solution containing a catalyst and drying, into an aqueous solution which contains a co-catalyst in a specific concentration, and performing electrolytic reduction. CONSTITUTION:The substratum electrode plate consists of a porous carbon plate which is obtained by immersing it in a solution containing a catalyst, for example chloroplatinic acid solution in a 20g/l concentration and impregnating it with platinum chloride. The sustratum electrode is dried and is immersed into a solution containing a co-catalyst in a concentration of 0.001-0.0001mol/l, for example in aqueous solution of tin tetrachloride in 0.001mol/l, and after electrolytic reduction, the catalyst and co-catalyst have thus been added. Using the above method, the matrix 2 which is made of active carbon, minute carbon, or minute nickel and carries the catalyst is held in a tube 1 made of woven fabric or microporous film, and into the tube 1, a collector 3 made of tantalum or nickel is inserted, and thus the negaive electrode for fuel battery can be prepared.
