Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the breakage of an electrode even when the electrode is spirally wound by covering an organic porous body for forming a substrate with an alkali resistant metal by physical deposition or sputtering, and then by conducting electroplating of nickel to form a three-dimensional porous nickel body. CONSTITUTION:In an electrode which is produced by filling an active material in a three-dimensional porous nickel body and used by spirally winding, the three-dimensional porous nickel body is produced in such a way that an organic porous body forming a substrate is covered with an alkali resistant metal by physical deposition or sputtering as conductive treatment, and electroplating of nickel is conducted thereon. Although any alkali resistant and anodic oxidation resistant metal is usable as metal for sputtering or physical deposition and titanium is also usable, nickel is practically optimum. An electrode having large mechanical strength which develops no breakage even when the electrode filled with an active material is spirally wound is obtained.
