Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide an electrode which enables electrodialysis and electrolysis without deterioration in the carbon electrode through an electrode position of manganess oxide on the surface of the electrode.
CONSTITUTION: When carbon is used for an anode in electrolysis, as the current density is uneven due to its rough surface, current density reaches a potential enough to generate oxygen, causing deterioration in the electrode. To solve this problem, with a carbon electrode as the anode and a platnium wire as the cathode, a solution of MnSO4 undergoes an electrolysis. Bivalent manganess ion is oxidized and MnO2 is separated on the anode whereby th carbon electrode is electrically coated with manganese. In this manner, MnO2 is deposited so as to fill the microscopic pores thereby checking the deterioration in the carbon electrode
