Abstract

PURPOSE: To make it possible to obtain high accuracy of about ±0.1mg H2O by reducing the surface area of a cathode in comparison with an anode, by specifying the cathode current density and by adding an alkaline (earth) metal ion to an electrolyte in accordance with an electrolytic current.
CONSTITUTION: An anode 5, which is produced by working a Pt mesh of 24 meshes into a cylindrical shape, and a cathode, which is inserted into the center position of the anode 5 and produced by winding a Pt wire of 0.5mmϕ in a helical shape, are supported on an insulating support 7 thereby to constitute an electrolytic electrode 3. The indicating electrode 6, which is supported on an insulating support 7', and the electrode 3 are dipped in an electrolyte 2 which is reserved in a single electrolytic cell 1 having no partition. The electrolyte 2 is stirred by a stirring member 8 using a rotating magnetic field. The current density of the cathode 5 is set at 0.5 to 3 A/cm2. An alkaline (earth) metal ion is added at a ratio of 0.04 M to 0.1 A of the electrolytic current to the liquid which contains a preset quantity of SO2, pyridine and I' constituting the fundamental component of Karl Fisher's reaction.
