Abstract
PURPOSE: To supply the oxygen required for aerobic micro-organisms by intermitting the outflow of the treating water from an outflow pipe and making the inflow rate of the water to be treated from an inflow pipe larger than the outflow rate of the treated water from the outflow pipe.
CONSTITUTION: The water to be treated contg. BOD is sprayed into a tank 1 by a distributor 5 via an inflow pipe 4. In consequence of this, the water level in the tank 1 rises gradually, and the BOD in the water to be treated is removed by the action of the aerobic micro-organisms stuck on the surfaces or in the voids of packings 3. When the spraying of the water to be treated continues and the level in the tank 1 arrives at the position in the peak end part (a) of a siphon 7, the treated water in the tank 1 flows out from an outflow pipe 8 via the siphon 7 and water sealing tank 6. Here, the flow rate of the treated water from the pipe 8 is made larger than the inflow rate of the water to be treated from the pipe 4, and therefore the treated water in the tank 1 is temporarily and completely removed.
