Abstract
PURPOSE: To keep the quality of treated water always below predetermined index value by obtaining the optimum return and excess sludge flow rates in a unit time by a specific method in order to maintain the mixed suspended solids concn. of an aerating tank at the target value.
CONSTITUTION: A titled system is formed basically of a sewage inflow pipe 1, an aerating tank 2, a settling basin 3, a supernatant release pipe 4, pumps 5, 7, and regulating valves 8, 9. In order minimize the fluctuating width of the mixed suspended solids (MLSS) in the tank 2, the forecast inflow sewage flow rate per unit time is set from the inflow sewage characteristics of the tank 2. The tank 2 model calculating the MLSS concn. on the tank 2 outlet side is set from this flow rate as well as substrate concn., return sludge flow rate and concn., and the basin 3 model calculating the return sludge concn. is set from said concn., sewage flow rate and the basin 3 return sludge flow rate. From these and the target value for making MLSS constant, the return and excess sludge flow rates required for obtaining the target value is obtained, and these are adopted as the optimum return and excess sludge flow rates in a unit time. The argorithm thereof is as shown in the figure.
