Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent short circuit due to the falling of active material by a procedure in which the lug portion of electrode plate is dipped in a molten lead alloy to dissolve the lug portion and at the same time a connection shelf is formed and also an insulation layer is formed on the upper part of the connection shelf. CONSTITUTION:The electride plate group G is formed by stacking the positive electrode plate 3 and the negative electrode plate 4. Then, a part of each of the upper and lower lug portions 1 and 2 of the electrode plate group G is dipped in the molten lead 6 to form the connection shelf 8, where the insulation layer 7 consisting of a mixture of lead oxide and silicon dioxide in an amount as much as 5-30wt% of the lead oxide is formed on the upper side of the shelf 8. The insulation layer 7 is formed integrally with the lower lug 2 by injecting the molten lead 6 into the connection shelf mold 5 and then putting the fluid insulation 7 specifically lighter than the moldten lead 6 onto the molten lead 6, for example.
