Abstract

PURPOSE:To effect uniform charging and destaticization without requiring a high voltage switching device, etc., by applying AC voltage to a charger, allowing it to carry out corona discharge, charging a photosensitive drum to a given polarity, and providing AC voltage controlling means for charging it to a reverse polarity in destaticizing it. CONSTITUTION:Corona charger 2 is provided in order to charge photosensitive drum 1 uniformly to a given polarity and also to charge drum 1 to the opposite polarity for the purpose of raising a cleaning effect. The AC voltage of the secondary coil of boosting transformer 10 is applied to corona wires 7 of charger 2, and the other terminal of the secondary coil is connected to positive and negative DC voltages 9 via switching device 8. In forming an image on drum 1, charger 2 changes over switching device 8 properly to charge drum 1 to a given polarity, and in destaticizing the surface of drum 1, charger 2 changes over to reverse polarity, thus permitting uniform charging and destaticization to be carried out with a simple apparatus without requiring a high voltage switching device.
