Abstract

PURPOSE:To permit even a DC supply source of low voltage and small capacity to perform electric discharge machining of stable worked surface roughness by jointly using a switching element, an inductance coil and a capacitor. CONSTITUTION:A transistor 8 is turned on/off by a control circuit 13, and while the transistor 8 is conducting, an inductance coil 6 and a capacitor 10 are simultaneously charged with energy. Even after the charging of the capacitor 10 has been completed, a minimum current for generating a high-voltage impulse is flowing through the inductance coil 6 via a by-pass resistor 11. When the transistor 8 is turned off, the high-voltage impulse due to a counter electromotive force generated in the inductance coil 6 breakdowns the insulation at a working gap 3 through a current limiting resistor 9 and a polarity switch 4. Then, electric discharge machining is performed by the given working energy stored in the capacitor 10. Thereby, a stable worked surface can be obtained.
