Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a high purity aqueous solution of calcium nitrite, in high efficiency, by absorbing a gas containing NO and NO2 obtained by the oxidation of ammonia, in a slaked lime slurry of a specific concentration under pressure at high temperature, and reacting the components.
CONSTITUTION: A gas mixture containing 5W12vol% of NO and NO2 wherein the molar ratio of NO/NO2 is 1.6W2.5 and having a temperature of 190W300°C is prepared by the oxidation of ammonia. The gas is introduced continuously into a slurry containing 20W40wt% of slaked lime under a pressure of 2W10kg/cm2 at a reaction temperature of 75W110°C, and made to react until the concentration of the remaining slaked lime decreases to 2W10wt%. Unabsorbed gas is recovered, chlorine gas is introduced into the recovered gas if necessary, and the gas mixture is oxidized at 85W150°C to obtain the oxidized gas wherein the total contents of NO and NO2 is 1W5vol% and the NO/NO2 molar ratio is 1.6W2.5. The oxidized gas is introduced into the aqueous slurry containing 2W10wt% of the residual slaked lime under a pressure of 2W10kg/cm2 keeping the reaction temperature at 75W110°C until the concentration of the remaining slaked lime decreases to ≤3wt%. The slurry is filtered to obtain the objective calcium nitrite solution.
