Abstract

PURPOSE: To detoxicate a waste water at a low cost by a mechanism wherein the supply amount of a oxygen containing gas is regulated according to a measured amount of TOD, total NH3 and (NO2+NO3) type nitrogen in an NH3 containing waste water and the waste water is subjected to wet oxidizing treatment in the presence of a supported catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: An NH3 containing waste water in a storage tank 1 is pressurized by a pump 3 to a predetermined pressure and mixed with an oxygen containing gas supplied through a heat exchanger 5 from a line 10, thereafter supplied to a reaction tower 12. In a tower 12, the waste water is maintained at 100W370°C and at a pressure which holds the waste water to a liquid phase and is subjected to wet oxidizing treatment in the presence of a supported catalyst containing one or more substances selected from Fe, Co, Ni, Pd, Cu or the like as well as a water insoluble or a difficultly water soluble compound of those metals. In this case, an O2 containing gas supplied through a compressor 7, a humidifier 9 is regulated according to a measured amount of substances to be oxidized within a waste water. The waste water is subjected to wet oxidizing treatment at a pH of about 8W11.5 and an alkaline substance is supplied from a storage tank 21 so as to adjust the pH of a liquid issued from a tower 12 and reaction products are separated into a gas and a liquid phase in a gas-liquid separator 14.
