Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare an unsaturated glycol-1,4-diester, in high production ratio, by reacting a conjugated diene with molecular oxygen and a carboxylic acid in the presence of a solid catalyst containing Pd, Te, and one or more specific metals.
CONSTITUTION: An unsaturated glycol 1,4-diester is prepared in high production ratio, by reacting a conjugated diene such as butadiene with molecular oxygen and a carboxylic acid (pref. a lower aliphatic carboxylic acid), usually at 60W180°C under normal or somewhat positive pressure, in the presence of a solid catalyst comprising (a) Pd, (b) Te and (c) one or more elements selected from Co, Pr, Nd, Sm, Gd, Tb, Er, and Tm. The solid catalyst is usually supported on a carrier such as activated charcoal, silica, etc.
