Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare an alkali metal carbonate and gypsum from an alkali metal sulfate and calcium carbonate, in high efficiency, by successively carrying out specific chemical reactions in combination.
CONSTITUTION: (i) An alkali metal sulfate is made to react with calcium nitrate at about 80W150°C in an aqueous solution, and the resulted gypsum is recovered as a product [formula I (M is an alkali metal such as potassium, cesium, etc.)]. (ii) The resulted alkali metal nitrate is made to react with carbon dioxide gas at about 550W1,000°C, and the resulted alkali metal carbonate is recovered as the seed for the MHD power generation (formula II). (iii) The generated nitrogen dioxide and oxygen are reacted with calcium cabonte in an aqueous medium (formula III), and the resulted calcium nitrate is used as a raw material of the reaction of formula I and the carbon dioxide gas is recycled as the raw material of the reaction of formula II.
