Abstract

PURPOSE: To constantly generate O2 gas by reacting sodium percarbonate with a decomposition catalyst in an aq. soln. contg. a polyol and/or a water sol. salt to control the yield of O2 gas without troublesome regulation.
CONSTITUTION: To an aq. soln. of sodium percarbonate and a decomposition catalyst such as MnSO4.7H2O are added a polyol such as ethylene glycol and/or a water sol. salt such as NaCl, and the percarbonate (Na2CO3.15H2O2) is reacted with the catalyst to generate O2 gas. The polyol controls the reaction rate in the early stage of the reaction, and the salt tends to control the reaction rate in the latter stage. By this method O2 gas can be generated more simply and assuredly in a simpler apparatus as compared to a conventional method.
