Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a binder glass composition having superior chemical characteristics for coating a phosphor by using a specified mole percentage of components.
CONSTITUTION: A low m.p. and low expansion glass composition is obtd. by reducing the contact of P2O5 as glass forming oxide and blending ZnO and/or PbO in large quantities, and by adding a small quantity of other components, the chemical durability of the composition is improved. This composition consists of, by mole, 34W41% P2O3, 44W61% ZnO+PbO (P2O5+ZnO+PbO≤96%), 0W6% K2O, 0W6% MgO, 0W6% CaO, 0W6% BaO and 0W9% B2O3. 5% fine powder of the composition is mixed into phosphor powder and kneaded with water. The kneaded material is coated onto tubular glass, dried, and calcined at 500°C for 1hr to stick the phosphor onto the glass. Thus, tubular glass of superior performance for a fluorescent lamp is obtd.
