Abstract

PURPOSE: A fluorescent substance that is composed of a fluorescent substance of a terbium-activated cerium orthophosphate given by a specific chemical formula in which a part of cerium is exchanged with lanthanum, thus emitting green light of high brightness with high cerium concentration and being readily produced because of its relatively low calcination temperature.
CONSTITUTION: A part of cerium is exchanged with lanthanum to produce a fluorescent substance of the formula [x, y are in 0.1<(x+y)<0.4, 0.05<y<0.3]. For example, when a fluorescent substance of preferable composition, Ce0.7La0.2 Tb0.1PO4, is prepared, the rare earth oxides are coprecipitated with oxalic acid and the coprecipitate is mixed with (NH4)2HPO4 and they are calcined at 1,200°C.
EFFECT: Raw materials are inexpensive and the production costs are low.
USE: A green component for three-wave type high brightness and high color-rendering fluorescent substance.
