Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a green luminous fluorescent substance made of Ce and Tb- activated lanthanum phosphate and usable for low and high voltage mercury vapor discharge lamps.
CONSTITUTION: The fluorescent substance is made of cerium and terbium-activated lanthanum phosphate (LaPO4) in which part of La may be replaced by Gd or Y. The phosphate is represented by the formula (where 0≤x≤0.3, 0≤y≤0.3, 0.005 ≤p≤0.6, and 0.01≤q≤0.5). This substance emits green luminescence of high intensity on being excited by ultraviolet rays of 254nm
