Abstract

PURPOSE: A fluorescent substance with a high luminescent efficiency at a high temp. emitting red light by means of UV ray, which is prepd. by adding a trace of Ge to an Eu-activated rare earth oxide fluorescent substance.
CONSTITUTION: Oxides of elements or raw material salts reading oxidizable by heating, each constituting the purpose fluorescent substance, are weighed in a determined proportion, mixed in a ball mill, etc., and fired at 1,000W1,500°C for 2W5hr to obtain an Eu-activated red light-emitting rare earth fluorescent material of the formula (wherein Ln is Y and/or Gd; 0<x≤0.01; 0.005≤y≤0.2).
EFFECT: It is possible for the fluorescent substance to effectively absorb UV ray emitted from the luminescent tube of a high-voltage mercury vapor lamp and to increase luminescent power because absorptioon spectrum extends to a longer wavelength region of UV ray than with a conventional Eu-activated rare earth oxide fluorescent material.
