Abstract

PURPOSE: A fluorescent substance which is excellent in the quantum efficiency of luminescence and has a greater luminescence output than the conventional ones, comprising an oxyacid salt with Yb3+ and Nd3+ as activators in a broad sense.
CONSTITUTION: In the fluorescent substance activated with Nd and Yb of the formula Ln1-x-y Ndx Yby Z (where Ln is at least one element selected from among Bi, Ce, Ga, Gd, In, La, Lu, Sb, Sc, and Y), in case Z is A5(MO4)2, the substance is of Nd0.5Yb0.2.Na5(WO4)4 for example, and in case Z is D3(BO3)4, it is of Nd0.9Yb0.1Al2.7Cr0.3(BO3)4 for example. And, in case Z is P5O14, the substance is of Nd0.6Yb0.4P5O14 for example, and in case Z is A5(PO4)2, it is of Nd0.5Yb0.2K3 (PO4)2 for exaple. Furthermore, in case Z is Na2Mg2(VO4)3, it is of Nd0.8Yb0.2Mg2 (VO4)3 for example, and in case Z is A'(MO4)2, it is of LiNd0.9Yb0.1 (WO4)2 for example. Becuase these fluorescent substances have absorption sectional area due to Nd3+ in the infrared region and effectively transmits energy from excited Nd3+ to Yb3+ by which to cause an approx. 980 nm luminescence within Yb3+, the matching of the wave length of silicon detector used most usually with near infrared wave length is good.
