Abstract

PURPOSE: A fluorescent substance capable of efficiently emitting green light by the irradiation of UV widely ranging in wave lengths and stable to the irradiation of high-density UV, which is obtd. by activating a matrix consisting of a rare earth silicate with cerium and terbium.
CONSTITUTION: Specified amounts of raw materials such as an oxide of at least one rare earth element selected from Y, La, Gd and Lu, SiO2, CeO2 and Tb4O7 are mixed and calcined in a weakly reducing atmosphere at about 1,300W1,350°, to obtain the purpose fluorescent substance of the formula (wherein Ln is at least one rare earth element selected from Y, La, Gd and Lu; 3×10-5≤x<1×10-3, 3× 10-2≤y≤3×10-1, 0.8≤z≤2.2). The fluorescent substance obtd., having excited spectral peaks both near 2,537Å and 3,650Å, is suitable for use in a fluorescent lamp for an electrostatic copier using greeen luminous ray as the light source, for lighting using the three primary colores and for others.
