Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a fluorescent substance which emits highly bright red light under the excitation of low-speed electron rays and excels in accelerating voltage- luminous brigtness characteristic, composed of europium-activated compound oxide fluorescent substance.
CONSTITUTION: SiO2, a tin cpd. such as SnO2, SnCl4, or Sn(OH)4 and a cpd. selected from MgO, CaO, SrO and BaO are mixed with an equropium cpd. such as Eu2O3, EuCl3, or Eu(NO3)3 in such a proportion as to give a mixt. of the formula (wherein MII is Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba; 0<x≤0.15; 0<y≤0.05; 0.0001<a≤0.1). The mixt. is calcined in an oxidizing atmosphere at a temp. of 900W1,300°C for 1W5hr. to obtain europium-activated compound oxide fluorescent substance. This fluorescent substance emits highly bright red light under the excitation of low- speed electron rays at an accelerating voltage of not more than 1kV, particularly not more than 100V.
