NEW MATERIAL:A Ce and Mn-activated or Ce, Tb and Mn-activated bivalent metallic borate phosphor represented by the formula, wherein MII' represents at least one metal selected from the group consisting of Mg, Be, Zn and Cd; MII, represents at least one metal selected from the group consisting of Ca, Sr and Ba; 0<a≤2.0, 0≤X≤0.25, 0<y≤0.4, 0≤z≤0.4 and 0<w<0.4.
USE: Fluorescent lamp, cathode-ray tube, etc., which emits bluish violet or yellowish green to red light by the excitation with ultraviolet rays or X rays.
PREPARATION: A mixture of phosphor materials consisting of boron compound which forms B2O3, compounds which form MgO, BeO, ZnO and CdO, compounds which form CaO, SrO and BaO, a compound which forms CeO2, a compound which forms Tb4O7 and a compound which forms MnO is fired at 800W1,100°C for 0.5W 6hr in the presence of a flux such as NH4Clor NH4 F in a reducing atmosphere.
