Abstract
PURPOSE: A novel fluorescent substance that is prepared by substituting a part of yttrium with europium ion in a specific proportion as an activator, thus emitting red light when irradiated with electron or ultraviolet rays.
CONSTITUTION: A compound of Al2O3.2Y2O3: Eu3+, in which the trivalent europium cation substitutes yttrium preferably by 1W15atom% as an activator, is used as a fluorescent substance. The objective fluorescent substance is produced by throughly mixing Y2O3, Al(OH)3 and Eu2O3 by a dry method or coprecipitating oxalates of Y, Al and Eu from an aqueous solution of their chlorides and by calcinating the mixture of their coprecipitate in furnace in an oxidative atmosphere, preferably in the air at 1,200W1,700°C for 1W24hr.
