PURPOSE:To prevent deterioration in the electrophotographic characteristics by forming a surface layer stable to oxidation with ozone. CONSTITUTION:On an electrically conductive support a charge generating layer based on an org. pigment type charge generating substance and a charge transferring layer based on an electron donative substance are formed in order, and a surface layer contg. an electron accepting substance with >=0.7eV electron affinity is further formed. The electron accepting substance in the surface layer is 2-bromo-6,8-dinitro-4H-indeno[1,2-b]thiophen-4-one, 2,4-dinitrothioxanthone or the like, and it is used in combination with a resin binder. The ozone-proof protective film is formed in about 0.05-10mum thickness by a coating method. Monoazo pigment, disazo pigment or the like is used as the charge generating substance in the charge generating layer, and 2,9-(p-diethylaminostyryl)anthracene or the like as the electron donative substance in the charge transferring layer.
