Abstract
PURPOSE:To simplify the operation of the pressure in a exhaust pressure equalizing tank and charge iron ore into the furnace safely by supplying an inert gas through pipes which are provided at the upper part of a top hopper and the lower part of a material charging hopper, in the titled device. CONSTITUTION:During when the iron ore is stored in the material charging hopper 28, the inert gas is supplied into a valve chamber 26 and the lower part of the hopper 28 through the pipe 36 to dilute the air present between particles of the ore. Then, the ore is allowed to fall into the exhaust pressure equalizing tank 24 in a sealed condition, and the pressure in the tank 24 is adjusted to the pressure at the top part of the reducing shaft furnace 16 by the inert gas supplied through a pipe 31. When the ore is dropped into the top hopper 18, the inert gas is supplied into the hopper 18 through the pipe 20. The inert gas in the tank 24 is then discharged to adjust the atmosphere and the pressure in the tank to be an inert-gas atmosphere and atmospheric pressure, respectively. The ore in the top hopper 18 is charged into the furnace 16 through a throat part 12 while preventing the upward flow of reducing gas at the furnace top by the inert gas.
