Abstract
PURPOSE: To enhance the strength and heat resistance of an electrically conductive Al alloy wire by drawing an electrically conductive Al-Fe-Cu-Zr alloy to a wire rod through hot and cold working the alloy in specified conditions.
CONSTITUTION: An Al alloy contg. 0.2W0.48% Fe, 0.03W0.2% Cu and 0.02W 0.1% Zr is melted and cast into a cylindrical shape. Without reheating this ingot, hot working is immediately started at 350W550°C, the ingot is hot worked at ≥60% reduction ratio, and the working is finished at 150W300°C to form a rough wire. This wire is then cold worked at ≥50% reduction ratio with an ordinary drawing machine to obtain the wire rod. Thus, by carrying out hot and cold workings in said conditions, an Al alloy wire rod as a conductor for an overhead power-transmission line having superior strength and heat resistance is obtd.
