Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an Al alloy used as a stabilizer for a superconductive wire by adding specified very small amounts of Fe, Cu, Si and Mg to high purity Al.
CONSTITUTION: An Al alloy prepared by blending high purity Al with ≥3ppm Fe and ≥5ppm Cu+Si+Mg while satisfying the relation of 3Fe+Cu+Si+Mg ≥ 30ppm is refined and cast into an ingot. The ingot is hot worked into a wire rod, and the rod is cold drawn into an Al alloy wire. When this Al alloy is used as a stabilizer for a superconductive wire, it has ≥8kg/mm2 tensile strength after cold working to the final size at ≥50% degree of working and ≥1,000 residual resistance after annealing at the final size.
