Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled substance containing much triisobutylene useful as a raw material for an odorless solvent in high yield from a hydrocarbon containing isobutylene without a problem of corrosion, in the presence of a calcined product of alumina-titanium oxide-fluorine having a specific content ratio as a catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: A hydrocarbon containing isobutylene, e.g. spent-BB fraction, is reacted in the presence of a calcined product of alumina-titanium oxide-fluorine containing 100pts.wt. alumina-titanium oxide consisting of 40W95wt% alumina and 5W 60wt% titanium oxide and 0.5W10pts.w.t fluorine as a catalyst in an amount of preferably 1W10pts.wt. based on 100pts.wt. raw material, at 100W140°C, for 5W 180min, to give the titled compound containing much triisobutylene.
EFFECT: The reaction product requiring no washing with an alkali and water can be readily purified later.
