Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled substance containing much triisobutylene in high yield from a hydrocarbon containing isobutylene in the presence of a calcined product of zirconium oxide-molybdenum oxide or a ternary system calcined product of said two compounds and further aluminum fluoride, as a catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: A calcined product of zirconium oxide-molybdenum oxide containing 100pts.wt. zirconium oxide and 1W40pts.wt. molybdenum oxide, or a calcined product of aluminum oxide-molybdenum oxide-aluminum fluoride containing 100pts.wt. calcined product mentioned above and 1W40pts.wt. aluminum fluoride as a catalyst in an amount of 1W10pts.wt. based on the 100pts.wt. raw material, is used, to give a titled substance containing much triisobutylene from a hydrocarbon containing isobutylene, e.g. spent BB fraction.
EFFECT: No problem of corrosion and ready purification of the product.
USE: A raw material for odorless solvents with low toxicity.
