Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain an olefin, paraffine, and a small amount of methane and aromatic hydrocarbon, by bringing a lower alcohol or its ether into cntact with a catalyst containing tungsten and oxygen.
CONSTITUTION: In preparing a hydrocarbon from a lower alcohol or its ether, a compound comprising tungsten and oxygen as main constituent elements is used as a catalyst. An oxide, e.g., tungsten trioxide, etc. and an oxyacid, e.g., tungstic acid, etc. may be cited as the catalyst, a condensate of an oxyacid, e.g., silicotungstic acid, etc. has high activity and can be used advantageously in the reaction. Preferably raw materials are methanol and dimethyl ether, and the reaction conditions preferably are 250W350°C at normal pressure or under pressure.
