Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare diphenyl useful as a heating medium, a platicizer, an electrical insulating oil, etc. in high selectivity, by the dehydrogenation-condensation of benzene in the presence of a catalyst system comprising Zr, Ti or their compounds and Mo, Co, Mg or their compounds.
CONSTITUTION: Diphenyl is prepared in high selectivity, by the dehydrogenation- condensation of benzene in the presence of a catalyst system comprising Zr, Ti or their compounds (hydride or oxides) and Mo, Co, Mg or their compounds (oxides). The ratio of Mo, Co or Mg to Zr or Ti is 0.1W4, preferably 0.1W1 by weight. The reaction temperature is 400W650°C, preferably 450W600°C.
USE: A solvent for the production of pressure-sensitive paper, or an intermediate for organic chemicals.
